This hands-on activity invites students to create a playful, rocking paper snail (kāhuli) using four colored paper circles and simple craft supplies. It introduces basic gastropod anatomy and encourages artistic expression, motor skills, and engagement with Hawai‘i’s native snail diversity in a fun and accessible way.
Materials Needed:
Multi-colored construction paper
Scissors
Glue stick
Sharpie
Steps:
Cut four circles: one large (8"), one medium (6"), and two small (eye-sized), each from different colored paper.
Fold the large circle to form the snail’s body.
Glue half the medium circle on the back as the shell.
Add white rectangle tentacles to the front.
Attach small circles as eyes, then draw a face.
Finish with a spiral drawn on the shell.
