This science enrichment packet offers daily place-based investigations focused on Green Anole lizards, ʻohe (bamboo), mālama ʻāina, backyard birds, weather adaptations, and heʻe hōlua engineering. Students choose one activity each day and work with an ʻohana member to practice kilo (observation), questioning, prediction, research, modeling, drawing, writing, engineering, and testing.
The packet strongly connects science with Hawaiian culture and environmental knowledge. Students learn about ʻohe as a waʻa plant and traditional Hawaiian resource, use bamboo in a tomato-support engineering design, investigate how birds and plants respond to rain, and build and test a model heʻe hōlua sled and course using natural materials.
