Mālama ʻĀina Daily Challenge 1 is a home-based stewardship activity centered on the Hawaiian values of mālama, aloha, and kōkua. Students are asked to help their ʻohana at home and then spend at least one hour outside each day caring for the ʻāina around their yard, garden, orchard, patio, or other home space.
The resource gives students practical choices such as weeding, pruning with an adult, building a raised garden bed, composting, planting food, picking up trash, and improving the area around their home. It also includes a daily reflection component and a safety section about protecting ʻōhiʻa lehua from damage associated with Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death.

Students complete a stewardship activity outside for at least one hour each day. Suggested actions include:
Afterward, students create a journal entry describing what they did, what changed, how the experience felt, and what the ʻāina means to them and their ʻohana.
