Future Foresters is an ongoing after-school, place-based education program from the Waikōloa Dry Forest Initiative that engages students in learning, exploration, and stewardship in the Waikōloa Dry Forest Preserve and surrounding sites. Students build science knowledge within a biocultural context while hiking, planting, monitoring native plants, caring for seedlings, maintaining trails, and serving their communities. The program supports long-term connection to place and encourages keiki to become lifelong learners and stewards of the ʻāina.

Dry Forest Stewardship Program
Students participate in an ongoing after-school program where they hike, explore, plant trees, monitor restoration sites, care for seedlings, build trails, remove weeds, and learn about dry forest ecosystems through place-based experiences. They also reflect on their role as stewards and help teach others about conservation in Waikōloa’s dry forest.
